Senior Coatings Scientist

The Technology Center provides innovative solutions to both industrial and consumer focused applications like Coatings and Care

For our Specialty Additives business unit at our Zwijndrecht Technology Center, we are currently looking for a Senior Coatings Scientist

This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the specialty additives innovation function. This position will report to the European Innovation Lead.

• Responsible to develop leading-edge chemical additive technology for coating systems that meet diverse industry needs
• Design and execute experiments, interpret data and independently draw conclusions; possibly direct technician support; assist in filing of IP as required
• Work with Marketing and Sales professionals to understand industry needs; lead or participate in multiple research projects with members of multi-disciplinary teams to achieve targets
• Communicate effectively with global internal and customer bases; build relationships with industrial colleagues
• Maintain up to date understanding of critical science for developmental efforts

• High level scientific proficiency (PhD or equivalent) with emphasis on polymer science, chemical principles and material science
• 5+ years R&D experience in industrial specialty chemicals
• 3+ years research experience in water-borne coatings
• Have proven record of innovation
• Have strength in design of experiments, executing experimentation and insightful data analysis
• Have experience in working with global multidisciplinary project teams and be able to lead such teams
• Effective communication skills in English, with diverse global communities, both internal and external

• Experience with cellulosic chemistry and properties
• Exposure or experience with chemical manufacturing (plant or pilot)
• Customer interaction experience
• Understanding of market fundamentals of coatings industry
