Food Application Technologist - Functional Ingredients

As a food application technologist, you’ll play a hands-on role in driving food innovation across categories like meat, seafood, savory, dairy, bakery, and confectionery. You"ll collaborate closely with our Innovation Center, product development, sales, and external partners to translate cutting-edge science into real-world solutions that make a difference.

This position is based at our global business, R&D and manufacturing hub in Gorinchem, the Netherlands, and reports to the senior application manager.

• Lead application development: Create new product applications using Corbion’s ingredient portfolio, with a focus on sustainability, functionality, and consumer appeal.

• Experiment & explore: Conduct lab-scale and pilot trials, both in-house and at customer locations, to test and refine formulations.

• Provide technical expertise: Act as the go-to expert for sales and business development teams, offering practical support and insights to customers and partners.

• Solve real problems: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot customer challenges related to shelf life, texture, taste, and food safety.

• Support innovation: Work with organic acids and fermented products to optimize their use in diverse food systems.

• Analyze & report: Conduct physical-chemical evaluations (pH, aw, texture, moisture, color, viscosity) and document findings in clear, actionable reports.

• Collaborate & train: Help organize and lead technical trainings and food demos for internal stakeholders, clients, and at trade shows.

• Champion safety: Maintain a safe and collaborative lab environment in accordance with company standards.

• Travel with purpose: Occasionally travel within EMEA to support technical trials and customer engagements.

• A bachelor"s or master’s degree in food science, food technology, or a related discipline

• 2+ years of hands-on experience in food product development or food application labs

• Strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus)

• A customer-centric mindset with a passion for solving technical challenges and delivering results

• A natural team player who thrives in cross-functional, collaborative environments

• Comfort working with technical tools, lab equipment, and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.)

• A proactive, self-starting attitude with a love for learning and innovation

• Enthusiasm for sustainability and a drive to contribute to a healthier planet through better food systems
