The Insurance Manager is responsible for the handling of the property damage, business interruption and liability claims and instigates recovery actions on third parties of such claims. Furthermore, together with the team, the Insurance Manager is also responsible for the yearly renewal process of the Global Insurance Program and safeguarding the Insurance policy, guidelines and procedures.

• Academic level in law and/or risk management, including relevant insurance certificates;

• At least 5 years of relevant work experience in the insurance industry and claims handling and legislation;

• Knowledge of the insurance market, -products and regulations;

• Fluent in Dutch and English, written and verbal;

• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and Google Workspace;

• Advisory skills;

• Analytical mindset recognizing exposures and translate them into insurance solutions;

• Strong communicator for maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

• No-nonsense proactive team player that is able to work independently with a flexible and service oriented mindset;

• Eagerness to learn and gaining new insurance skills.

The Insurance Manager is part of the Global Insurance Advisory team. The Insurance team consists of 2 (Senior) Insurance Managers and a Claims Handler who report directly to the Senior Vice President Treasury & Insurance. They work closely together with the Treasury & Insurance Controller and Mid-Officer Insurance. The Global Insurance Department is a centralized function within Vopak, located at the headquarters in Rotterdam.

The Global Insurance Advisory team is responsible for the procurement of the Global Insurance programs as well as the claims handling globally. In addition, the team evaluates and manages the insurable risk potentially affecting the profitability or the company’s going concern.

What are the responsibilities?

• Advise primarily on claims matters and insurance related issues;

• Together with the Senior Insurance Manager take care of the yearly renewal process of the Global Insurance Program: from the strategic meeting, collecting underwriting information, negotiating terms and conditions up to archiving of the final contracts;

• Participate and/or lead in the execution of Risk Studies (together with the Insurance broker);

• Support the preparation of relevant statistical information and data analysis;

• Pro-actively promote the Vopak Insurance Policy including Procedures and Guidelines (internally and externally);

• Organize the efficient and professional handling of (mainly) Property and Liability claims, to analyze and settle them, to liaise with operating companies and if needed to negotiate with lawyers, adjusters, insurers and third parties;

• Organize efficient recovery procedures against third parties;

• Ensure that all claims are registered in the in-house risk register;

• Represent Global Insurance internally and externally in projects related to business development (greenfield, brownfield and acquisitions) to safeguard adherence to Vopak’s Insurance Policy;

• Be a sparring partner for the Insurance Control team for reporting and projects;

• Support the Insurance department on various projects.
